Aleksey Igudesman

Igudesman was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and studied with Boris Kuschnr from 1989 to 1998. He has several books published by Universal Edition, including Style Workout, The Catchscratch Book and Pigs Can Fly. He has published two violin sonatas, the second dedicated to Julian Rachlin.

In Violins of the World, Igudesman performed his violin duets with Gidon Kremer, Julian Rachlin, Janine Jansen, Pavel Vernikov and Alexandra Soumm. This project also featured Igudesman’s poetry, recited by Sir Roger Moore.

Aleksey Igudesman’s compositions have been performed worldwide by soloists, ensembles and orchestras, often with Igudesman as a solo violinist/conductor, including Kremerata Baltica, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Virtuosi Italiani, Tonkünstler Orchestra and many others. His collaboration with the film composer Hans Zimmer for the most recent Sherlock Holmes movie was nominated for the Oscar for best soundtrack of 2010.
